My dear departed friend Nicolai wrote this song as an instrumental jazz hymnal that we recorded on his album ÆTER back in 2013. I wrote lyrics to the melody and we would often sing it together but this is the first time it will be heard in this form by ears outside of direct family and close friends.

I wrote the lyrics while thinking about Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian (or the Evening Redness in the West) which is both beautiful and terrifying. Levon Helm is of course one of the greatest musicians of all time.

This song now combines elements of all of these references and memories and tributes. Marie’s vocals add a warm yet haunting churchiness to it while Mads Hyhne plays a legendary trombone solo and I think the overall atmosphere does justice to the music while bringing the story in the lyrics to life.
